On the 7th and 8th of February 2026, a total of 56 Christian students from different schools participated in a Servant-Leadership Camp at St. Lukas Centre, Kota Padawan, themed “Do whatever He tells you”.

Organized by the Kuching Archdiocesan Youth Commission (KAYC) supported by alumni/ae from Kuching Young Catholic Students (KYCS), this camp was open to leaders and future leaders of YCS groups and other Christian/Catholic school clubs, aiming to foster guidance and faith to these students to grow in their respective movements through faith in Christ leading to servant leadership as the theme promotes, “Do whatever He tells you”.

On the first day of the camp, the participants gathered at St. Lukas Centre, Kota Padawan, at 8 in the morning, with their activities revolving around energizers and songs, to sessions on the first two aspects in the KYCS methodology which are “See” and “Act”. The participants also were put into groups, and were tasked to come up with skits relating to a bible verse. After that, everyone gathered in the chapel for “Holy Hour”, where the eucharist was exposed in the middle of the altar, followed by praying the holy rosary with personal petitions, singing of adoration songs and silent prayer moments.

On the second day, everyone gathered at the grotto for a morning prayer and exercise led by Fr. Ramon, followed by an energizer with songs to kickstart the day. After breakfast, the camp continued with another session on “Judge” and on the last methodology “Act” was also carried out. The participants were also given an introduction session about “Conversation in the Spirit”, and how to practice it in their servant leadership roles later. Then, the participants gathered together following their respective schools for a personal and group commitment session, where they had to write out the plans that they wish to carry out in their respective clubs for the year. After lunch, everyone gathered in the chapel for Holy Mass, and the day ended with a group photo before heading home.

This camp received an overwhelming amount of positive responses from the students. Majority of the participants mentioned that the sessions carried out throughout the camp has given them new insights on how to be good leaders. Here are some…
“During this camp, I learnt a lot on how to do Bible sharing, how to carry out the Conversation in the Spirit (CIS), how to make friends and practising teamwork with my group during discussions, after meals and so on”, says one of the participants. Another participant said “it was a good experience joining this camp, I learnt how to be independent, not to be afraid to make mistakes in life and learn from them to be better”.

This camp also allowed the students to connect and make new friends. One participant found joy in getting to meet other people from different schools, while another participant said they felt truly happy when their group were having lunch and bonding with each other through jokes. All the participants felt happy they got to connect with one another despite being from different schools.
A heartfelt thanks goes to all the participants for agreeing to join the camp and offering themselves wholeheartedly in all the camp’s activities. Big thanks as well to all the servants for taking time out of their weekend to serve, and to KAYC youth ministers with Fr. Ramon Borja SDB (Salesian of Don Bosco) who served as priest-presider and advisor. This Servant-Leadership Camp has been very meaningful because of all of you.
This camp is a reminder to all of us to not only practice to be good leaders, but to also follow what Jesus has done as a perfect servant leader. May we say yes to what our mother and model, Mary, has asked us, to “Do whatever He tells you”.
