Malaysia Catholic Youth Day (MCYD) 2025

Kuching Young Catholics Take Part in MCYD 2025:
“From MOMENT To MOVEMENT”

For the very first time, the Catholic community of Malaysia holds its big, bold and beautiful gathering of Malaysian Catholic youth, almost two thousand of them, from all parts/states/regions of Malaysia, from all the nine arch/dioceses in this country, dubbed as the inaugural Malaysian Catholic Youth Day (MCYD) 2025. It took place in Kota Kinabalu from the 31st of March to the 6th of April.

The Archdiocese of Kuching took a very active part in this historic event by sending 93 delegates composed of 89 youth representatives, 18 facilitators, 19 note-takers, 2 synthesis team members, 3 MCYMC members, 2 priests, 1 deacon, and 1 sister. These delegates come from all the 12 parishes of the Archdiocese and from 7 youth groups as well. Big THANKS and praises to all these young people and the Archdiocese and the parishes that supported them even financially.

The Archdiocese of Kuching, along with the other dioceses, shared the joy and service of bringing this historic event to life, through celebrating and animating Holy Masses, launching the SALIB MALAYSIA, conducting the Way of the Cross, and other events, with special emphasis on the Conversations in the Spirit, all done as part of the Malaysian Catholic Youth Day in its two parts, namely, three days of ‘assembly’ done in five parishes per age group and three days of ‘festival’ done in Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish as one big community.

A notable point to add is that the Kuching delegation did so well in its animating the music and singing during one of the big Holy Mass celebrations and in its cultural presentation during the Cultural Night celebration. 12 delegates from the Archdiocese of Kuching presented an ethnic dance entitled “Rampaian Sayang Sarawak” or ” Medley of Beloved Sarawak” which showcased the unique heritage and diversity of ethnic communities such as the Chinese, Bidayuh, Iban, and Orang Ulu.

As MCYD 2025 came to a close, one thing remains certain—our journey has only just begun. What took place during this historic week was not the end, but rather a spark that has lit the way forward for the Catholic youth of Malaysia. The spirit of unity, faith, and purpose that was reignited in Kuching and across all participating dioceses now calls us to “reconnect, reflect, and reignite the fire.”

The Kuching contingent’s post-MCYD gathering is coming up soon, where reflections and shared experiences will continue to breathe life into the journey we started together. As we carry the flame forward, we also look ahead to the next chapter—the Perjalanan Salib (Journey of the Cross), which will make its way to the Malaysian Pastoral Council (MPC), a sign of continuity, commitment, and communion across the Church in Malaysia.

Let this be a time of conversation leading to compassionate action, where young hearts are moved not only to speak, but to listen, to walk alongside others, and to serve with love.

MCYD 2025 has been an awesome moment. Now and from now on, we are all called to keep alive and growing the movement.
